It is high time the entertainment industry recognise and reward talents, especially those who work behind the scene to make any production worth viewing. This was disclosed at the DrumXtreme Series 4 held recently at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka.
According to Solomon Elijah, initiator of Drum Network Africa, an entertainment company that promotes drumming and performing arts in Africa, attention is focused more on celebrity artistes at the expense of those that showcase them to the public.
He noted that DrumXtreme Series is a high-energy urban drum movement born out of the desire to meet the rising need of talented individuals within the performing arts sector.
“We are focusing on drummers and performing musicians who happen to be one of the most creative group of individuals within the performing arts industry and also use the medium to encourage live music performances, which is currently a problem in the entertainment industry.
“We strongly believe that people in the performing arts deserve recognition and to be given platforms to showcase their skills, get discovered and employed. Because this is an indisputable way to curb idleness, unemployment and other societal ills,” he said.
Temitope Odebiyi (a.k.a Topsticks) who was recognised as the number 1, female drummer in the industry, noted that many people believe artiste are meant to be behind the stage and not known, but now it is taking a new direction, because the industry now understands that no one is inferior to the other because we are all working towards achieving the same goal.
