SS Peter and Paul School pupils presenting Ulysses

As part of celebrations marking the end of school academic session, pupils of SS Peter and Paul Creche, Nursery and Primary School, Ikate, Elegushi, Lekki, Lagos, brought on stage Ulysses, adventures of an ancient Greek legendary figure.

According to the management of the school, the beginning of 2015-2016 school-year saw all classes engage in story reading activity. The main purpose of this activity was to stimulate the children’s imagination, which needs to be exercised and engaged.

The primary six pupils in particular enjoyed the adventures of Ulysses. They read the adaptation of Homers poem by Anna Claybourne, and learnt about the hero’s courage, humility and cleverness.

A multi-disciplinary approach including English, art and craft and drama classes allowed the children to re-interpret Ulysses’ stories using their own talent and imagination. Students and teachers alike appreciated a poem faraway in time and space, but so universally common for the feelings, the pleasure of discovery, the risks of adventure.

General Manager, Loving Gaze, the not-for-profit organization, while introducing the play said, “Curiosity, courage and engagement help you to travel in reality and it had been our motto”.

She continued, “Wonder and curiosity are the starting point for any learning process. Courage and engagement are essential to pursue our personal growth and widen our horizon. Educating our pupils is at the core of mission.

We want to accompany their human and cultural growth through the discovery of each aspect of their reality. We want them to experience first hand through each educational activity, how positive reality is, because it is given.”
