When Ghanaian actress/Tv presenter, Regina Adu Safowaah, was nominated for African Broadcaster of the Year at the recently concluded Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards (NBMA), she was very hopeful, she, however, narrowly missed the ultimate, while winning in another category, as the Best Dressed Celebrity on the red carpet at the same award. For her career as an actress, she got a nod with the award of Most Promising Actress at the AKOBEN Film Festival Awards last year, Best New Actress by City People Awards Nigeria, 2015 and is Pan African Festival (PANAFEST) brand Ambassador.
Regina landed herself into limelight selling ladies clothing and accessories to augment the allowance she received from her parents as a student at the university of Ghana. Thereafter, she found herself in the acting industry in 2012 through the advice of her friends and customers, who saw the acting talent in her but she was not exploring. According to her, “They introduced me to Google to ask the question, ‘how to get a job in the film industry’, I did so and my story began”.
Regina, who has over 17 movies to her credit, including Cheaters, House of Gold, Today’s Woman, Red Line, Sex in Holy Matrimony, Scar Love, Love and Cheat, among others, aims at becoming the best actress across Africa, “through God Almighty’s hand to the world,” she said.
The multi-talented lady is also the presenter of Market Plus on CINEPLUS TV, Chocho Concept Party, a comedy show on Multi TV Ghana, Health Talk on Metro TV Ghana.
The screen diva who knew she had a talent in acting, but was not sure how to go about it, still looks up to Genevieve Nnaji as her role model, because according to her, “she is an outstanding talent who has carved a niche for herself worthy to be emulated.”
She, however, has her challenges in the industry. She says, “Some producers tend to cast their friends instead of real talents like myself and it borders me”.
